Set Up Your Google My Business (GMS) Profile
Ensure the address you provide matches the one used by USPS.
Enable Public Display of Your Information
Check the box to allow algorithims to legally pull your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) data. It sounds creepy, but it isn't. It's necessary.
Define Your Service Area
Specify the geographical radius your business serves, both online and in person.
Choose Business Categories
Select primary and secondary categories that accurately describe your business, or create custom ones. For example, a digital marketing firm might choose “marketing agency” or “SEO services.”
Craft a Keyword Rich Business Description
Write a short description (under 750 characters) that includes relevant keywords. Use bullet points to clearly summarize what your business does.
Add Visual Content: Upload Photos!
Upload high-quality images, videos, and candid shots of your team and/or repurpose your social media posts. This makes your profile more engaging and authentic. Be sure to tag visuals with geotags and keywords in the alt text and captions.
Verify Your GMB Ownership
Getting your Google My Business verified can be a breeze, or it can be an absolute nightmare. We usually have to help our clients get verified, but there are a lucky few that have no issues! Keep in mind that this process can take several days, as Google ensures authenticity.
Encourage Customer Reviews and Interaction
Request reviews and questions from customers, and respond to them. This builds social proof and signals to search algorithms and users that your business is credible. Google local service area ads are highly influenced by reviews!
Post Regular Updates on Google Posts
Create short updates (up to 1,500 characters) about your business, such as upcoming events, product images, or changes in address. These posts appear in your Knowledge Panel.
By following these steps, you'll optimize your Google My Business profile, enhancing your online presence and attracting more customers. If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out!
